Session Information

How long will my maternity session last?

You can expect your maternity session to last 20 minutes. We will allow an additional 10 minutes for changing.

What should I expect at my maternity session?

Your comfort is most important, please be assured that this is my priority during our maternity session. I strive to not only capture beautiful moments for you and your spouse, but also make the experience enjoyable and comfortable. As a woman myself, I understand the strong desire for your portraits to be as flattering as possible during your pregnancy. Please do not worry about your new "love marks" on your belly, I will be sure that your finished portrait is perfect.

What clothing do you suggest for my maternity session?

Please feel comfortable enough to wear as much or as little clothing as you would like. Jeans work great, your 'pre baby' ones, unbuttoned and worn below your belly, with a form fitting tank top. A solid color tank will work best, white or bright colors! Jeans also work great while we wrap a scarf around your top so we can see your belly. Please do not wear anything with elastic on your belly for a few hours before your session. The elastic can leave unflattering markings on your belly. Watches and some other jewelry can have this same effect. Dont forget about your feet! Tight socks can leave marks too; consider wearing flip-flops to your session. Feel free to bring a few outfits if you need help deciding.

What about Dad?

While this mini session is all about Mom, Dad is playing an important roll in the baby's life as well. Dads are welcome to wear jeans and a shirt, although skin to skin contact makes maternity portraits special, so I would invite Dad to consider taking his shirt off too.

What will you be providing?

There will be a simple solid backdrop (bright colors worked great on as do jeans!) as well as a patterned backdrop that best suits closeups of your belly. I will also bring soft fabrics to drape around you which create a flattering and soft effect for your portraits. I do also provide a few scarves that may be used for wraping around yourself but please feel free to bring any additional ones that you may have at home to make your session feel a bit more personal.

Can I purchase additional digital files?

Yes under the current pricing for SH Portraits. Additional digital files begin at $150 each and a portrait collection must be purchased first.

When will I receive my images & portraits?

Your images will be shipped directly to your home in approximately 2 weeks. If additional portraits are ordered, please expect to receive your complete order in approximately 3 weeks.

How large will I be able to print my digital images?

The files are cropped and sized as a 5x7 at 200dpi. You will be able to print your images up to a 5x7. I suggest printing your images through www.iprintfromhome.com. This is a local consumer lab with consumer pricing but pro quality printing. SH Portraits is not responsible for the quality of the printing chosen for your images if not printed through SH Portraits.

Can I order additional portraits?

Of course! Any additional portraits purchased through SH Portraits will be discounted 20%. This offer is only valid on your maternity session and not additional sessions with SH Portraits. The order must also be placed during the gallery viewing time to receive the discount and it is not available on additional digital files, packages, cards, collages, canvases or albums.

Can my other children be included in the session?

Your maternity session is geared specifically towards capturing your belly and focuses on the Mom. While Dad can be included for a few portraits, siblings can not be included. This is due to the time constraints for your maternity session. When additional little ones are added it will be difficult to capture Mom within 30 minutes.
